BT TV to Incorporate Amazon Prime Video and Now TV

BT has announced it will be adding Amazon Prime Video to its television package later this year, with Now TV joining in 2019. The service already offers content from Netflix. BT TV is available via the company’s own set-top boxes, as well as the BT TV app for iOS, Android, Apple TV, Chromecast and Samsung smart TVs.

The platform supports Ultra HD, DVR and TV cast functionality, while a new version of the BT TV app will allow viewers to download content on to their devices to watch on the go.

The announcement is part of BT’s new “converged network division” in the UK which will see BT, mobile network EE and broadband provider Plusnet collaborate on a raft of new products over the next three to four years, including fixed broadband with speeds of up to 314Mbps, as well as extended 4G coverage and 5G high-speed mobile internet.

Analyst Comment

BT is moving away from trying to have or produce unique content towards a position as just an aggregator of content, as it sees little chance of competing with global brands such as Netflix and Amazon. (BR)
