Brother’s Head-Mounted Viewfinder Shown at NAB

Brother International Corporation was at NAB to show off its high-definition head-mounted display, the monocular AiRScouter WD-330C. It is optimized for video production applications such as a remote camera viewfinder. But it is not wireless – the control box is connected by an HD-SDI cable to the camera, gimbal, and stabilizer system so range is somewhat limited. It is also being promoted for drone operation.

The display is LCD-based with a resolution of 1280 x 720. The optics feature a 25º field of view with a adjustable focal length and a virtual image that is equivalent to a 19” monitor at 1 metre distance. The brightness was not specified but when we tried it on, the image was bright enough for the high ambient lighting in the ShowStoppers ballroom. It is also IP54 certified, meaning it can resist dust and water. This version was developed with the SDI input specifically for camera operators. A different version features an HDMI input.
