BOE to Compete Against Foxconn for a Share in JDI

According to a report on Chinese-language site Economic Daily News, panel-maker BOE Technology may soon enter a bidding war with Foxconn Electronics to acquire a share in Japan Display (JDI).

JDI had previously said that it requires ¥200 billion ($1.765 billion) to prepare for mass OLED production in 2019.

Sharp announced in August that it is also willing to help steer JDI through its financial troubles. Sharp is owned by Foxconn, which is a major supplier to Apple. BOE may struggle to compete with such a strong team, despite being the largest panel-maker in China and receiving support from the local government, according to the report.
