What They Say
The Elec reported that BOE is continuing to have supply problems with OLEDs for iPhones as it has had challenges in getting enough display driver supply. The blog said that both BOE and LG Display both have LX Semicon as a supplier. That company is said to have prioritised LG Display. The supply chain challenges may mean that this year BOE may not be able to meet its target of up to 40 million units.
The report said that BOE is only making OLEDs for automotive in its B12 fab in Chongqing after a plan to supply smartphone OLEDs from the fab was dropped as the cost was too high.
What We Think
I was surprised to see the comment that LG is being prioritised. When supply is tight, priorities always have to be set, but they are rarely made public in any way. The most successful businessman that I worked for taught me to always supply the good payers first! Good advice. (BR)
