BOE Plans for G8.6 OLED Fab Get Firmer

What They Say

The Elec reported (in Korean) that BOE of China has set a target of the end of 2024 to build a G8.6 (2250 x 2600mm) OLED fab at its B16 plant in Chengdu, Sichuan. The capacity would be 15K input substrates per month. The Elec reports that the fab is expected to use a ‘half sheet’ horizontal deposition process for manufacture. LG is also reported to be working on the same concept. That is in contrast to Samsung which is looking at a full sheet vertical deposition method for its next G8.5 fab.

The firm is said to have been in touch with Canon Tokki over securing a slot for the development and manufacture of an evaporator.

What We Think

There have been reports for quite a long time that Samsung has been looking at vertical deposition. We reported on it some six months ago, based on an article in The Elec, but DSCC has also reported on tests by Ulvac in Korea on vertical deposition.
