The gist of it: BOE lacks the consumer-facing capabilities that TCL CSOT, Samsung, and LG possess. TCL CSOT has been aggressive in accelerating brand awareness and raising its profile. Samsung has had a longstanding position of power in the market by virtue of its consumer electronics businesses, and the fact that its Android-based Galaxy phones are the chief rival to Apple’s iPhones means that out of all of the companies at Display Week 2023, it is Samsung that is getting the most online press, driven by a deluge of coverage of mobile products. It may be a B2B strategy that makes sense, but BOE could use a B2C charm offensive. Displays are meant to be as visible as possible, right?
The BOE Line-Up at Display Week 2023
BOE has used Display Week 2023 to introduce a variety of advanced technologies and innovative applications, such as smart in-vehicle displays, glasses-free 3D, and metaverse-related technologies.
Its ADS Pro brand demonstrated a range of LCD products, including a 110-inch 16K UHD display, a laptop display with a world-record refresh rate of 600 Hz, and an eco-friendly display made from recycled materials. The f-OLED brand showcased a 17-inch bendable laptop display and a product that can be folded both lengthwise and breadthwise, enabling flexible and diverse display scenarios. The α-MLED brand revealed a 163-inch 0.9mm LTPS COG MLED, offering incredible UHD image quality.
During the event, BOE is demonstrating innovative technologies for immersive interaction. Its smart cockpit features a 42.2-inch display with a 10K resolution and a 6.94-inch Camera Monitor System (CMS) that could detect dangerous driver behaviors using AI technology. It is also showing a 32-inch 3D display, an 8K glasses-free 3D display, and AR/VR products for the metaverse. To top it all off, BOE has won the “Display Application of the Year” award for its 10-inch 8K LCD display designed for 3D printing.
