BOE Display To Invest In New $145 million OLED TV Production Line

BOE Display has announced that it has signed an agreement with the Hefei municipal government to co-invest one billion CNY (around $145 million) in a new OLED TV production line. BOE will invest 80% of the funds and the Hefei government the remaining 20%. This new production line will add to BOE’s other production line in Hefei which is a pilot line producing commercial OLED TV panels, albeit in very small volumes.

In addition, the company is also developing and producing small sized rigid and flexible OLEDs. BOE has a 4.5-Gen pilot line in Chengdu that is already producing AMOLED displays. The company is also on track to begin production in a new $3 billion Gen-6 line in Chengdu in the second half of 2017.

In October 2016, BOE also announced a third OLED plant in Mianyang. This will be another 6-Gen AMOLED fabrication plant but it will produce flexible OLEDs on plastic substrates. According to BOE’s plans, this $6.87 billion fab will produce 45,000 sheets per month and will enter production in 2019.

In May 2016, BOE Display demonstrated several new AMOLED prototypes – including a 4.35 inch bendable and foldable OLED displays. The bendable panels offer a resolution of 1120×480 (HWVGA, 280 PPI), a bending radius of 15 mm, brightness of 350 cd/m² and colour gamut being 100% NTSC. The foldable panels are the same, except the bending radius is much smaller at 5 mm.
