What They Say
GizChina reported that BOE has shown a prototype flexible OLED (f-OLED) that can be in- and out-folded to make an N shape. It has a maximum diagonal of 12.3″ when open, but just 5.6″ when folded to a thickness of 2cm. The device, as demonstrated, used a sliding compensation hinge system developed in-house. Inward folding is said to be reliable up to 200K operations and outward folding to 100K.
The article also says that Samsung will unveil a triple-folding tablet in the first quarters of this year – possibly at MWC.
What We Think
I like the idea of this kind of design, but do worry about the potential for damage to the out-folding hinge area of the display. BR)
