Taiwan’s main backlight unit (BLU) makers, Radiant Opto-Electronics and Coretronic, reported mixed results in May. Radiant Opto’s sales for the month fell 8.3% sequentially to NT$2.9 billion ($93.7 million), just 0.8% higher than April. So far this year, the company’s sales have fallen 18.2% year on year to NT$15.6 billion ($504.1 million).
Coretronic reported sales of NT$5.7 billion ($184.2 million) in May, increasing 3.5% month on month but 19.2% down YoY. Sales fro January to May were also down, falling 18.1% to NT$26.9 billion ($869.3 million). Coretronic shipped 6.7 million BLUs in May, up 3% MoM, and 91,200 DLP projectors, 12% higher than April.
