What They Say
Bloomberg’s Apple watcher, Mark Gurman, said that the firm is about to “embark on one of the most ambitious periods of new products in its history” between the autumn of this year and the middle of 2023.
The article highlights the ‘always on’ widgets that will exploit LTPO technology to refresh at a very low rate and at low brightness. The interest on the iPhone 14 will be on the Pro phones which will have a new A16 chip (the non Pro models stick with the A15) and the expected pill-shaped holes for Face ID and the camera. The 5.4″ mini will be replaced with a 6.7″ model. Apple will also start the transition to USB-C for charging, starting with a new low end iPad using the A14 and with 5G later this year.
Gurman doesn’t like the “Stage Manager” app for multitasking with new M2-based iPads in 11″ and 12.9″ coming this year and supporting the technology. He also expects a bigger iPad at between 14″ and 15″. The M2 will quickly be used in the
- M2 Mac mini.
- M2 Pro Mac mini.
- M2 Pro and M2 Max 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros.
- the M2 Ultra and M2 Extreme Mac Pro.
He also expects the M2 to be in the rumoured mixed reality headset. The M3 chip could arrive next year.
The Apple Watch S8 will maintain current hardware, but next year there will be a new processor.
He forecasts a new Apple TV box based on an A14 chip and potentially with better gaming performance.
What We Think
Evidently, busy times in Cupertino! I’m just eager to try out the next version of iPad OS to see if the external display support is as good as I would hope. (BR)
