Big Deals on Big TVs This Black Friday

This year, retailers are especially aware of the popularity of large TVs on Black Friday. Both Target and Best Buy have said that their sales mix is shifting towards larger sets. 60″ – 65″ TVs are HHGregg’s fastest-growing sales category, while Sams’s Club has said that it is reducing the floor space dedicated to smaller sets to make more room for 60″ – 65″ displays.

According to the CTA, prices for large sets have fallen faster than those for TVs in general. While average TV prices are down 5% YoY, 65″ – 69″ TV prices are down almost 19%. UltraHD resolution is seen as a technology that can motivate shoppers to upgrade the size of their TV. “We finally got some innovation that the customer cares about”, said CEO of HHGregg, Dennis May.

The CTA’s data shows that consumers are beginning to see the advantages of UltraHD. Last year, these sets had a 3% market share and 13% revenue share across the TV industry; those figures have now risen to 14% and 40%, respectively.
