Michael Tsai, president of AU Optronics (AUO) was recently quoted by Digitimes as saying that the global flat panel industry will rebound in the third quarter of 2018 after a difficult second quarter. Tsai also forecast that TV panels will decline sharply during the month of March, following poor sales of TVs during the Chinese New Year.
Digitimes also published comments from AUO chairman Paul Peng, who has said that oversupply will be the “the norm” from next year onwards, as several Chinese panel makers are in the process of expanding their production capacities. AUO intends to maintain its own production at “proper levels”, and will continue to make investments in large-sized panels up to 85″, according to Peng.

Although AUO is not building any new fabs, it continues to invest in boosting production and efficiency from its existing fabs. (BR)
