Digitimes Research: New MacBook to Reach 4 Million Shipments in 2018

Digitimes Research has revealed that Apple will release a new entry-level MacBook at the end of the second quarter of 2018, with a price similar to that of the MacBook Air. Analyst Jim Hsiao has forecast that the device will ship four million units during 2018, two-thirds of Apple’s projection of six million.

Apple originally intended to keep costs down by using a China-based panel supplier, but will now use panels from LG Display after its Chinese supply partner experienced ‘issues’. This new MacBook will apparently use the same screen size and resolution as the current 13″ MacBook Pro, 2560 x 1600. The new device will enter mass production in May, with Quanta Computer and Foxconn taking care of its assembly, at a 70/30% ratio respectively.

Digitimes Research’s report also went on to mention two new iPad models; a refresh of the standard 9.7″ iPad due for release in the second quarter of 2018, and a new iPad Pro coming in the second half of 2018.
