Michael Tsai, president of AU Optronics, recently said, as reported by Digitimes, that the company anticipates that the global LCD market will be stable in 2018.
AUO reportedly estimates a 6-8% annual increase in supply and demand, and total global capacity, plus a one-inch increase in average panel size for TVs, with some impact from the World Cup in 2018. Tsai also commented that large-size TV shipments will increase significantly.
Meanwhile, chairman Paul Peng described 2018 as “the best of times and the worst of times” for the TFT-LCD panel industry. He said that the company will not go overboard, investing in next-gen panel production, instead focusing on the quality of its existing capacity.
The company also said that it is working on microLED technology but in smartphones was focusing on its LTPS technology.
