What They Say
While AUO and Innolux both reported revenues up from last month by 1.7% to $570 million and by 3.6% to $528 million, respectively, they were both down dramatically from last year at -43.4% and -39.1%.
During November 2022, Innolux shipped 9.17 million units of large-sized products, an increase of 4.6% MoM. Shipments for small and medium-sized products were 19.75 million units, a decrease of 9.8% MoM. AUO said its area shipment went up by 17.3% month on month.
What We Think
The AUO numbers are interesting as the area growth was quite solid, but revenue growth was small, so ASP on an area basis fell a lot. I suspect that this reflected a signficant shift in product mix rather than a dramatic drop in prices. I have heard comments from DSCC that the rise in panel prices has stalled, but there are no indications of further drops. There’s really nowhere to go on pricing – further drops would mean simply ‘shutting up shop’. (BR)
