What They Say
Digitimes reported that AUO has slowed down its planned capacity expansion at its LTPS LCD fab in Kunshan, China. It had been looking to boost capacity from 27-28K substrates/month to 36K and possibly up to 45K later. The lockdown has caused delays in equipment installation.
The firm is still continuing with plans to build a G8.6/8.7 fab based on LTPS or IGZO to start in 2025, the blog said.
The site said that Hannstar has deferred its planned investment in a new line that was intended to start production in 2023 with a capacity of 30K substrates of up to G6 size and probably using IGZO. The firm had cut its utilisation, but will go back to full production in Q3. (HannStar Display to expand LCD panel capacity)
What We Think
Given the tough situation in the LCD business at the moment, delay does not look like a bad idea. (BR)
