Asus launched a new ROG Phone 6 gaming smartphone handset with a virtual event.

The phone has two variants, the Phone 6 and the Phone 6 Pro. The handset is based on Qualcomm APUs and Qualcomm attended to back up Asus. Clock speeds of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Mobile Platform are up to 3.2GHz. RAM is 16GB (18GB on the Pro) and storage up to 512GB while the battery is 6000 mAh and a 65W charger. Much was made of the cooling systems in the smartphone.

The display is a 6.78″ Samsung AMOLED with HDR10+ support, 2448 x 1080 (20.4:9 – 395ppi) 165Hz refresh and with 720Hz touch giving 23ms latency. The display system uses Pixelworks processing (Pixelworks Bring Magic to Mobile – The X7 mobile visual processor) and can offer 800 cd/m² full screen or 1200 for a 1% window. The phone has Widevine L1 DRM, allowing platforms like Netflix to offer it FullHD streams.

What We Think

This looks like a cool product for gamers. The battery life is very long and the display should give a good experience, although its performance doesn’t seem to be better than the class leaders other than in refresh. The firm said that it is working with game developers to get support for HFR. (BR)
