What They Say
Asus will be at IFA to launch its Zenbook 17 Fold, a 17.3″ 1920 x 2560 (3:4) notebook that can also operate as dual landscape displays. The display is certified to DisplayHDR TrueBlack 500 with 500 cd/m² of output and with 100% of DCI-P3 and Pantone validation. It has a glossy surface. The PC is based on an Intel Core i7-1250U and Iris Xe graphics with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. There are dual Thunderbolt 4 ports.
There’s a ‘soft’ keyboard that slips between the two parts of the system when it’s folded.
What We Think
Intel presented on what it is doing in foldables at the SID/DSCC Business Conference in a session that I joined on the platform. I didn’t make myself popular when I suggested taht the firm should call it a foldable tablet with an add-on keyboard – although no logical response was forthcoming! I can ss how the idea of a bigger screen is cool, but, at best, this kind of design looks like an interim phase.
A ‘traditional notebook form factor where the display could be extended by rolling out would be attractive to me, but I find it hard to see that the Fold as it is is compelling.
The display is reported to have come from BOE. (BR)
