What They Say
TFTCentral reviewed the Asus ROG Strix XG309CM 29.5″ 2560 x 1080 (21:9) gaming monitor. The basic feature list is:
- Fast IPS’ technology panel 1ms G2G quoted response time from AUO. Brightness measured at 350 cd/m²
- 220Hz maximum overclocked refresh rate (200Hz ‘native’)
- Adaptive-sync VRR, including FreeSync Premium certification
- ELMB-sync blur reduction (backlight strobing) + VRR mode
- Standard colour gamut backlight (sRGB)
- 1x DisplayPort 1.2 and 1x HDMI 2.0 connections
- USB type-C connectivity with DP Alt mode and 15W power delivery
- Built in KVM switch
- Adjustable stand with tilt, height and swivel adjustments (and logo projector!)
- Integrated 2x 2W speakers
Colour performance was unexceptional at area of 104.7% of sRGB (measured) and with certification of ?e error of <2. Contrast was measured at 807:1. Display input lag is reported to be super low at just 1.90ms.
Overall, the monitor gave good motion performance, but brightness was a bit low, especially with backlight strobing.
What We Think
I checked this out as its relatively unusual to see this kind of format and size with gaming features, but the overall result seems to be a bit underwhelming. There don’t seem to be any prices available yet, so it’s hard to position the monitor. The LG equivalent is selling at relatively low prices compared to the launch several years ago. (BR)
