ASUS Republic of Gamers Announces ROG Phone 5 Series

What They Say

Asus launched the latest ROG gaming phone, the Phone 5 Series. The phone uses a 144Hz Samsung AMOLED with 1080 x 2448 and 300Hz touch sampling as well as Delta-E <1 colour accuracy, protected by Victus Gorilla glass from Corning on the display and Gorilla Glass 3 on the back. HDR10 and HDR10+ content is supported and the display is said to support 111% of DCI-P3 colour and 1,200cd/m² peak output. The fingerprint detector is under the display.

Qualcomm Game Quick Touch is supported to boost responsiveness. It is built around the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G Mobile Platform and has a very high capacity (6000 mAh) battery. GPU speed is said to be 35% faster than the last model.

The ROG Phone 5 Pro and ROG Phone 5 Ultimate include a small passive rear-facing OLED for customisation or for system alerts and status called ROG Vision. It’s monochrome or colour depending on the version. The other model uses a matrix of RGB LEDs for a ‘light up logo’.

Highlighting comments by Mark Zuckerberg about heat, the high end versions come with a clip-on fan.

What We Think

I’m sure if you are a keen gamer this is is a good device. I have been impressed with the gaming performance in demos of previous versions of the ROG phones. (BR)
