Asus Project Precog is a Dual-Screen Notebook

At the Computex event, Asus has shown Project Precog, a clamshell notebook design base on a dual display concept that runs in stand, book, tent and flat mode and uses one of the displays as both a display and a touch keyboard. The keyboard can be in the upper or lower part of the display, depending where the fingers are placed and the keyboard switches to the top of the display when a stylus touches the lower part of the display, when a large touch pad is enabled. An Intel Movidius-powered camera detects the fingers

The Precog is also said to have special facilities to boost AI applications.

At the event, Asus also showed how the dual displays could be used in a book configuration with a separate bluetooth keyboard. No details were released (such as resolution or even size, although the displays look around 13″ or 14″)

Analyst Comment

As someone that types a lot, I’m not convinced of the value of the touch keyboard, I prefer a real one with the tactile feedback and the quality of the keyboard is one of the factors that I take into account when I buy a new PC. If you have to also have a bluetooth keyboard, it’s probably better to have a standard notebook with a USB monitor. However, it’s good to see companies trying new form factors and designs and this kind of concept might be especially interesting if you have a flexible OLED display. (BR)
