Asus’ PB279Q Adjusts DC to Reduce Flicker

Asus’ new 27″ monitor, the PB279Q, is an UltraHD model for prosumers and gamers. It covers 100% sRGB and 75% NTSC, shows 10-bit colour and has a 5ms response time (reasonably low for an IPS model).

Picture-in- and picture-by-picture viewing modes are supported. Up to four sources can be shown on the monitor at once, using the DisplayPort, mini-DisplayPort or MHL-HDMI (x4) ports. Additionally, Asus’ SplendidPlus Video Intelligence technology is built in, which optimises image and video by adjusting colour brightness, contrast and sharpness. In addition to Scenery, Standard, Theatre, sRGB and Night View modes, Asus has added Low-blue Light and Flicker-free (via DC modulation) modes.

As it is intended for users likely to sit at the monitor for long periods of time, the PB279Q can tilt (-5 deg to 20 deg ), pivot (90 deg ), swivel (120 deg ) and is height adjustable (0 – 150mm).

The monitor has 178 deg viewing angles, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio and 300 cd/m² of brightness. There are also two 2W speakers. Asus will begin selling the PB279Q in mid-December for $800.
