Asus Leading in OLED Notebooks – Sigmaintell

What They Say

The Elec reported data from Sigmaintell that highlighted that Asus has been the biggest vendor of OLED notebooks and has 36% share followed by Samsung and Lenovo. The shares are shown in the chart below. Overall, Sigmaintell said that the market for panels should be 5.4 million this year. Samsung is reported to have sold 800K panels in 2020 and is the only ‘meaningful’ vendor.

The firm expects 7.5 million OLED notebooks next year (3.1% of all notebooks) and 15.6 million in 2023 (6.8% of all).

The report said that Asus and Samsung Display are aiming to make an OLED notebook that could sell for $1,000. Under its own brand, Samsung is aiming to sell 1 million Galaxy Book Pro notebooks this year.

What We Think

As we have been reporting, much of the growth will depend on Samsung investing in additional IT OLED capacity. We’ll be publishing a DD on improvements in IT OLED efficiency later today. (OLEDs Getting Better Efficiency for IT Applications) (BR)
