Asus Denies Job Loss Reports — Supply Chain Tells a Different Story

According to Digitimes, Asus has downplayed reports that it is to lay off staff from its gaming, handset and notebook departments, with a minimum of 300 jobs to be cut from its gaming business alone.

However, supply chain sources told the publication that the company has so far cut 100 jobs (less than 1% of its Taiwan-based workforce) across its handset and gaming notebook departments. Employees affected by the job cuts have been transferred to other departments or received severance packages, the sources added. They also mentioned that the company is in discussions regarding a potential spin-off for its smartphone business.

The possibility of job losses first cropped up back in August, when the company announced its sales were down 8.3% year-on-year for the first eight months of 2018.
