What They Say
DSCC quotes a report from Hyundai Securities that suggests that Samsung’s sales of foldable smartphones may be just 10 million down from previous estimates of 15 million. DSCC said that Flip 4 and Fold 4 panels were up by 47% and 46% respectively to a total of around 9 million, but that is below previous estimates. The Flip 4 may be 2% ahead of expectations and the Fold 4 is just 1% below.
DSCC has reduced its expectations for October and November from 2.87 million to 2.02 million.
What We Think
Separately, IDC said that its forecast for foldable smartphone shipments is 13.5 million units, 1.1% of the overall market of 1.352 billion units. By 2026, though, IDC is forecasting 41.5 million units (2.8%) which is the equivalent of 38.7% CAGR. That’s good growth, but the category will remain a niche in volume terms.
Last week, vivo released its X Fold+ which has an 8.03″ foldable LTPO OLED with 1916 x 2160. (BR)
