Apple has unveiled its next-generation CarPlay and it is looking to take over all your instrument panels in a car. This advanced version offers a unified user interface tailored to each car brand. It activates upon car startup, combining iPhone-powered features and in-car content. Aston Martin and Porsche are the first showcase partners to adopt this technology.
This iteration of CarPlay, developed in close collaboration with automakers, balances Apple’s interface expertise with the distinct brand identity of each car maker. The system allows for customized gauge clusters and widgets, reflecting each brand’s ethos. Aston Martin has personalized CarPlay to align with its heritage, featuring a minimalist gauge design and British racing green accents. This bespoke interface is expected in their 2024 lineup. Porsche’s adaptation of CarPlay features a unique three-dial layout, including a central power meter and a speedometer, nodding to its motorsport history. The interface includes circular graphics and a drive mode indicator.
Jaguar, Mercedes Benz, and Polestar had previously been confirmed as partners with Apple on this version of CarPlay, but it seems like Porsche and Aston Martin are going to be first cars out with the technology. Apple seems to have completely changed CarPlay to adapt to the driving experiences from these major brands, despite being no slouch in the brand business itself. Some of integrations that everyone should welcome include tuning the radio, and managing the climate control functions. Apple already claims that 80% of new cars sold are able to use CarPlay, but this takes the application to a whole new level.
