Sources close to the matter have told CNBC that a proportion of Apple’s upcoming original content will be made available for free through its TV app on Apple TV and iOS devices.
The sources also claimed that a refreshed version of the app will be launched next year, adding that Apple is searching for “tent-pole”, PG-rated TV franchises for the app that could serve as a springboard to a full, subscription-based streaming service like Netflix in the future.
Other reports indicate that Apple’s original content will begin rolling out in 2019.
