The Elec has reported that Apple is planning to launch two iPads using OLEDs in 2023, after introducing a single model, based on a 10.86″ panel from SDC in 2022. Next year’s model is expected to use an LTPS rigid OLED with Thin Film Encapsulation (TFE).
The later models will be 11″ and 12.9″ diagonal and the post suggests (although it looks like pure speculation, to me) that flexible OLEDs with LTPO might be used.
What We Think
Of course, it’s feasible that a decision to use flexible OLED with LTPO might be to take advantage of the higher refresh rates available. An OLED version could probably sit alongside further developments of miniLED as the technologies are sufficiently differentiated. High brightness with bigger weight and bulk vs slimmer and lighter for the OLED. (BR)
