Apple to Ditch Intel CPUs?

Apple

Bloomberg has reported that Apple plans to move away from using Intel chips in its Mac product line and move to its own chips, based on the Arm architecture and currently used in Apple’s smartwatches, smartphones, tablets and the AppleTV. The paper said that Apple represents around 5% of Intel’s business (and Intel’s stock price dropped by 8% after the report). The change is said to be planned to start in 2020 and will probably start at the lower end of the Mac range. (Laptop Mag tested the A11 Bionic used in the iPhone X and iPhone 8 and 8 Plus and found that it was better than laptops with Intel’s Core i5 processor on the Geekbench 4 test).

The aim of the move is to help Apple get more consistency in apps between the iOS-based platform and Mac.

Qualcomm is also trying to establish itself with the ‘always connected’ PCs based on its architecture and Windows. (BR)
