What They Say
MacWorld reports that Apple ran into a glitch recently with its Studio Display, which runs a version of iOS 15.4. The article said that the 15.4.1 update did not support the Display, but the 15.4 version was ‘un-signed’. One user complained that with the Studio Display connected, this meant that he couldn’t update the MacOS software on the host PC.
The glitch was quickly fixed to allow V15.4 to be ‘signed’.
What We Think
I’m still not used to the idea of firmware updates for monitors, but the Studio Display has a lot more than just monitor functions. Apple has already said that it will update the firmware on the display to improve the performance of the Center Stage camera, which has been the target of some criticism. The monitor can only be upgraded from a Mac, highlighting the issues that DPReview highlighted when it reviewed the monitor. It’s great on the Mac, but limited when on other systems. (BR)
