What They Say
Nikkei reports that the next version of the Apple M1 chip, and due to be used in upcoming new MacBooks, may come into production as early as July. The chip will be made by TSMC in its 5-nanometer plus (N5P) process. Like the M1, the architecture is based on Arm’s technology.
Nikkei said that boosted by the coronavirus, Mac shipments jumped 29% to 23.1 million units in 2020, according to IDC. In the January-March period, Apple shipped 6.69 million Macs, up 111% from the year before.
What We Think
I laughed at the “tentatively known as the M2” comment by Nikkei! The M1 has been getting a good press, where software has been ported to support it. The impact of the M2 could be significant in reinforcing Apple’s strength among content creators. (BR)
