According to supply chain reports, the inclusion of an OLED screen and the removal of the home button are just two of the changes planned by Apple for the iPhone 8. Another big change is how the fingerprint ID will work on the new phone.
The supply chain reports also indicate that the new iPhones will use Apple’s Authentec algorithm combined with Privaris under glass identification technology for a redesigned fingerprint ID solution. This all amounts to a multi-touch display with integrated fingerprint technology and a virtual home button.
Apple acquired the majority of the fingerprint and touchscreen technology patents from Privaris in 2015.
A report from Nikkei Asian Review states that the new iPhone 8’s OLED display will be a massive 5.8-inches, but with smaller top and bottom bezels in order to shrink the size of the device. This is made possible by the removal of the home button.
