What They Say
Bloomberg reported that Apple is planning to use its latest processors to improve its position in the PC market and new MacBook Pros could be here in the summer in 14″ and 16″ sizes. These will be followed by
- a revamped MacBook Air,
- a new low-end MacBook Pro and an
- all-new Mac Pro workstation
After this there will be
- a higher-end Mac mini desktop and
- larger iMac.
Features for the MacBook Pros will include a magnetic MagSafe charger and re-introduced ports including HDMI and an SD Card slot.
For the new MacBook Pros, Apple is planning two different chips, codenamed Jade C-Chop and Jade C-Die: both include eight high-performance cores and two energy-efficient cores for a total of 10, but will be offered in either 16 or 32 graphics core variations.
What We Think
Although I haven’t been in the Apple PC world for many years, it is good to see real technical competition for Wintel. The Wintel experience has improved immeasurably since the early days (and I have used every version of Windows since the start) but still competition is good!
I’m a keen user of Affinity graphics software and have used it to kick the Adobe monthly subscription model. It works particularly well on the M1 chip, according to the forums, but should be really good on a Mac Pro workstation, especially with an XDR monitor! (BR)
