What They Say
According to The Information, Apple is developing a 16″ iPad that could be released at the end of 2023. There were no details of the display that might be used.
What We Think
At the end of 2023, it seems unlikely to me that Apple would use an OLED. However, there is talk of Apple moving to OLED for its tablets around 2024. Now, given that the iPad Pro was last the subject of a major re-design in 2018, I’m not convinced that this is likely. If I was planning the next re-design, I would want to change the display technology at the same time. And I can’t see Apple introducing a new miniLED display for a 16″ iPad for a single year.
The iPad Pro based on the M series chips continues to evolve. I have been thinking about moving to Mac as I have been so impressed with the video processing on the M1 iPad, but my favourite long term video editor, Vegas Video, is not available on Apple platforms. I have been recommended to DaVinci Resolve by another Vegas using friend and yesterday I heard that it will come to the iPad Pro later this year. Given that my favourite graphics programmes (Affinity) are available or nearly available, I may actually be able to switch to an Apple desktop without going beyond the iPad. I just need to check out what music editing software is available on it now! (BR)
