Apple Considering Larger MacBook Air

What They Say

Bloomberg reported that Apple may have a new 15″ MacBook Air next year and a new 12″ MacBook Pro for later this year. A 15″ MacBook Air would be the largest that the firm has made to date in the Air line. This is part of a strategy to win more share from Lenovo, HP and Dell, exploiting its own silicon.

The 15″ was considered as an option earlier, but was shelved as the firm focused on the 13.6″ version launched at the WWDC. (Apple Increases MacBook Air Display and Adds External Display Support to iPad).

If it goes ahead with a 12″ MacBook Pro, it will be the smallest notebook from the firm since a previous model was discontinued in 2019. The current lineup includes 13.3″, 14.2″ and 16.2″ versions. New 14″ and 16″ models are being planned that are reported to be much more than just a chip upgrade to the M2.

New versions of the Mac Mini are said to be in testing with Apple.

What We Think

The news about boosts to the iPadOS that Apple announced have made me think it might be better to wait before committing to a new MacBook after 20 years of Windows notebooks. The iPad keeps gaining functionality, so I should be able to afford to wait. I usually trade up my notebooks at the end of the three year onsite warranty that I buy from Lenovo. However, few of the things that I now do really need a heavy duty Windows PC any more, so the excellent content creation and music software, along with the long life time that users get from Apple notebooks is attractive. For Display Daily, 95% of what I do just needs good web functions. The other 5% is graphics. (BR)
