In its quarterly presentation, Apple’s Tim Cook said that sales of Apple TV were into ‘double digits’ although the company didn’t release any precise numbers. The boxes are increasingly being used by TV operators in Europe and UltraHD support has been a critical part of this. Cook said that Dolby Atmos would be supported later in the year.
Cook also gave a little bit more information on the long-discussed Apple content service. Cook said:
“As you know, we hired two highly respected television executives last year and they have been here now for several months and have been working on a project that we’re not really ready to share all the details of yet. But I couldn’t be more excited about what’s going on there and we’ve got great talent in the area that we’ve sourced from different places and feel really good about what we will eventually offer.”

Cook believes that cord-cutting is about to suddenly accelerate to a much higher rate.
The company has also a released a beta of the next version of tvOS. Features, in addition to Atmos, include support of allowing the viewing of cable content that is being streamed around the home, although this will be limited to Charter Spectrum users, initially. (BR)
