Apple AR/VR Headset Could be Power Hungry

What They Say

In a research note seen by MacRumors, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the much rumoured forthcoming Apple AR/VR headset will use Apple’s biggest USB-C power adaptor which can provide up to 96W. There are also expected to be dual processors, one at 5nm and one at 4nm, with the more powerful one with processor power similar to the M1 Mac chip and the lower power one dedicated to the sensors.

What We Think

That’s a lot of power for a headset. I would guess that if you have that much power, thermal considerations are going to be significant. Close to 100W around the head would be a lot! As we have previously reported, DSCC has said that the headset will have three displays so will need a fair amount of processor power – at the kind of level needed for a desktop system. (BR)
