What They Say
The Verge reports that Samsung, Lenovo, and Microsoft are the first device manufacturers to commit to shipping Android 12L, the new version of Android designed to be better optimized for tablets and foldable devices and will ship later this year. The Verge reported that Lenovo’s P12 Pro tablet can already run a beta version of the OS.
There’s a 10 minute video of 12L from 9to5Google here. The link also shows a full list of the new features which include a new ‘App Pairs’ feature to make dual and split screens work better. There are also improvements to the interface, such as a ‘persistent dock’ like the Windows taskbar that will appear on all display areas. The UI also has ‘more rounded corners’ to better fit a smartphone display.
What We Think
It seems to have turned out to be non-trivial to develop Android to work on multi-display devices such as foldabes. (BR)
