What They Say
ANC of the US and Glaam of South Korea said that they would promote Glaam’s Media Glass which would be integrated by ANC for sale in the US. The glass has embedded LEDs so that it can act as a window in daylight, but become a display after dark. It is said to be 99.7% transparent and is said to have a 100,000 hour life at full brightness. The firms said that the glass is already in 250 buildings in Asia.
What We Think
Somehow, I had not picked up on this product, but I cannot claim much expertise in architectural LEDs and displays. I have been impressed over the years with the work done by LG on embedding LEDs in films for this kind of application. The company, in its video, points to the ability to replace glass in historic buildings, which allows digital signage while maintaining the historic look. I would worry about lifetime and degradation over time, but I guess those running buildings will take precautions to maintain the quality of the displays. (BR)
