What They Say
Anandtech has got its hands on a new Samsung S21 Ultra and had a deep dive into the power consumption in various modes, compared to previous Samsung devices. The blog found that some modes seem to use more power, although why is not clear. However, it also found that the efficiency is significantly better than S20 generation devices, as shown in the chart below. The testing showed a full screen peak brightness of 942cd/m² and at that output level, the power consumption is less than the Note20 Ultra at 778cd/m².
Tests were also tried with fixed output (300 cd/m², 120Hz, FullHD mode) in the S21 Ultra and S20 Ultra and found that the new display uses 27% less power.
What We Think
This really backs up Samsung’s claims about better materials and a better backplane. ‘Chapeau’ to Samsung’s engineers – such a big boost in OLED performance is not often seen! There is more data in the article – if this topic is important to you, it’s worth checking out. (BR)
