Analogix Semiconductor, Inc. today announced that its ANX7428 achieved USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) certification for USB Power Delivery (USB PD), receiving the Product Test ID 10970042. The ANX74XX Mobile HD family supports the DisplayPort™ over USB-C™ protocol (formally known as the DisplayPort™ Alt Mode), USB data, and USB Power Delivery.
ANX74XX is a fully integrated, single-chip, low cost solution for mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, and notebooks. The family includes USB-C Port Controllers with USB Power Delivery up to 100W, USB-C Port Controllers with USB 2.0 charging, SuperSpeed USB data transfer and a high-speed mux for DisplayPort Alt Mode. It has flexible configurations, such as enabling up to four USB Type-C ports for notebooks and 2-in-1 convertibles.
“USB Power Delivery enables faster charging and up to 100W of negotiable, bi-directional power,” said Jeff Ravencraft, USB-IF President and COO. “USB-IF certification for products such as ANX7428 ensures that the product is compliant with the appropriate USB-IF specifications, and will interoperate with other USB-IF certified products. Interoperability is key to a thriving ecosystem and a positive user experience.”
Adhering to the USB Power Delivery specification is necessary when developing USB Type-C Alternate Mode (Alt Mode) devices. The USB Power Delivery specification defines the entry and exit, into and from a USB Type-C Alt Mode. One example of a USB Type-C Alt Mode is the DisplayPort Alt Mode for USB Type-C Standard published by VESA.
“DisplayPort™ over USB-C™ delivers the highest resolutions at the lowest power, which makes it ideally suited for mobile computing devices, such as the recently introduced Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL,” said Bill Lempesis, Executive Director at VESA. “The DisplayPort audio/video out capability enables new use-cases, such as Continuum for phones, effectively allowing you to use your phone like a PC.”
“The USB Power Delivery certification of ANX7428 ensures the product’s compliance and interoperability in a growing USB PD ecosystem, which is essential in building consumer confidence, and improving the overall user experience,” said Andre Bouwer, vice president of marketing for Analogix. “The SlimPort® Adopters Program allows its members to test their SlimPort-enabled products with other devices available in the market. Certification programs will further help to ensure a good end-user experience and clarify which devices work with which others.”
The SlimPort certification program for SlimPort-enabled products is available to provide an additional layer of interoperability testing, not only the DisplayPort audio/video out functionality, but also the whole system including conversion to HDMI and VGA displays.
