AMD Acquires Nitero for Wireless VR/AR Technology

California-based semiconductor company, AMD, has acquired intellectual property and key engineering talent from Texas-based Nitero. The move is to enable AMD ot produce the next generations of wireless VR and AR headsets. Nitero can provide 60 GHz mm wave radio technology that can be used to enable multi-gigabit transmission with low latency in room-scale VR environments.

The acquisition gives AMD a broader portfolio of intellectual property and enables solution providers to create more immersive VR and AR computing experiences.

Mark Papermaster, AMD CTO and senior VP, stated that AMD’s newly acquired wireless VR technology is a long-term technology investments to develop high-performance computing and graphics technologies that can create more immersive computing experiences.
