What They Say
Amazon has a new Kindle Scribe that will add stylus support with a device that will snap magnetically to the 10.2″ E Ink display in the Premium version. A basic pen version skips the magnet and an eraser. The Scribe is 5.8mm thick and has 300ppi and 16 grey scales. There is an adjustable and auto-adjusting ‘warm’ front light. Like all Kindles, the device is said to have ‘months’ of battery life. It weighs 433gms.
E Ink didn’t include the resolution, but the photos suggest that the display is around 3:4 aspect ratio, so we think the resolution is around 1835 x 2450 at 300ppi.
Using the stylus users can hand-write sticky notes, annotate downloaded books, draw sketches and write to-do lists using the built-in application. Early next year, Amazon will also implement support for sending documents directly from Microsoft Word to Scribe.
The product costs from $339 with extra for upgrades to 32GB and 64GB and to the premium pen.
What We Think
I have a family member who may sign up for this product. She wants something to use in meetings for notes that is not as distracting as a smartphone, tablet or notebook! (BR)
