Amazon has started a ‘Channels’ service for live TV to its Prime platform in the UK, Germany and Austria. The á la carte service allows individual channels to be added and include Discovery, Eurosport and MGM. There are forty channels initally in the UK (from £1.49 to £9.99 per month), with 25 in Germany and Austria (from €1.99 per month to €7.99)
Analyst Comment
Although the channels are not as strong in Europe as in the US, where they include HBO, this move is still seen as potentially disruptive. Amazon in the US has also done some deals for live sport – still the killer app for satellite and other broadcast Pay TV. (BR)
