Alcatel’s Value Phone Costs $30

Alcatel, a division of TCL, has unveiled a new smartphone exclusively for MetroPCS customers in the USA. The Alcatel TRU is a low-cost value smartphone with a large display.

The 5″ screen of the TRU has 854 x 480 resolution and is protected by Asahi cover glass. The phone’s 5MP rear camera uses Polaroid software (although Alcatel doesn’t say what this achieves!); the front camera is a fixed-focus 2MP device.

Android 5.0 runs on a 1.1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The phone has 8GB of storage (expandable to 32GB via microSD), 1GB of RAM and a 2,000mAh battery. Despite being a value model, it features 4G connectivity.

MetroPCS is selling the Alcatel TRU for $110, although a launch offer and mail-in rebate takes this down to $30 for a limited time.
