AirTies Cloud surpasses 25m homes

What They Say

AirTies has said that its Cloud service is now being used by 25 million homes. The company makes Wi-fi systems (STBs and gateways) for the use of TV and other ISP service providers.

What We Think

I wouldn’t normally bother with this kind of topic, but I first reported on a small Turkish start-up that we reported on when it developed WireIessHD in 2009 and I met the Chairman and co-founder, Bülent Celebi at IBC that year when it explained its mesh Wi-Fi concept. I was impressed with the idea and we reported regularly after that. I remember querying whether Wi-fi was better than PLC for whole home networking. Celebi pointed out that in his markets in SE Europe and India at the time ‘wiring codes are not as well respected as in Germany or the UK’.

The last time I met the firm, they showed me how their impressive diagnostic software could allow service providers to diagnose users’ networking issues with an amazing level of detail using its cloud technology. (BR)
