AGC Glass Tank Accident Impact May Extend Glass Tightness

What They Say

DSCC said in its blog that AGC had suffered a small accident in its plant in Korea that may add to lengh of the tightness of supply in glass following problems for Corning & NEG (Power Outage at NEG May Create Glass Shortage for Displays). One of the four tanks ‘exploded’, while down for repair, and was due to return to production in Q1. 2021. It was due to make G8.5 and G10.5 glass for use in China. The main effect is to potentially extend the period of tight supply.

What We Think

Separately, EETAsia said that the effect will not be more than around 1% in industry supply, quoting Trendforce. Panel prices may continue to be firm until late Q3 2021.

In another report, The Elec said that Corning is planning to expand production of its G10.5 glass factories in Guangzhou and Wuhan in China. It quoted the firm’s CFO as forecasting sales up 20% on Q1 2020. (BR)
