Advanced Notebooks Decline 26% But Remain Poised for 120% Y/Y Growth

What They Say

DSCC published a blog that outlined the firm’s forecast for what it calls ‘Advanced Notebook’ displays (i.e. with OLED and miniLED). Q1 22 was down 26% because of supply chain issues, lockdowns and weak demand. Year on year, though, the category was up 438% to 3.6 million panels. The forecast for the year has been slightly downgraded from 18.4 million to 18 million with MiniLEDs at a 49% share and OLEDs at a 51% share. However, miniLED is ahead at the moment because of Apple’s 14.2” and 16.2” MacBook Pro models. Apple has 99% share of miniLED notebooks.

In OLED notebooks, Asus had 55% of the market in Q1 2022, but over the year is expected to decline to 43% as other brands grow. The blog article looks in detail at the brands in the segment.

SDC remains the dominant OLED panel supplier (43% share in Q1 22, rising to 53% in Q2). The MiniLED notebook PC display market is currently split between LGD and Sharp for Apple products, while AUO, BOE and other panel suppliers supply other brands. In revenue terms, LG Display is top and is expected to stay top for the year.

The blog highlights the expected performance features in OLED and miniLED. OLED is expected to grow to 75% share in 2026 while the Advanced Notebook category is expected to grow to a 23% unit share and 42% revenue share of all notebooks.
