Ad-Skipping Company Develops STB to Enable Service

US-based Skipr is developing an Android TV STB with a pass-through function for cable TV. Skipr’s primary offer is an ad-skipping service, redirecting viewers to alternative programming. However, at first this only worked with an Android app and cable and satellite signals, so Skipr developed its own box. The unit will have UltraHD video support and run on a 2GHz octa-core ARM processor.

This harks back to the original Google TV boxes, which were able to connect to a cable or satellite TV box via HDMI. That feature has been absent in the newest Android TV units. (TA)
