Acer said that its operating income in Q1 2021 was $100.4 million, at 3.9% of revenue of $2.56 billion (up 46.5% YoY), the highest in 10 years.
Separately, the firm said that revenues in April were up 26.3% at $891 million.

Acer released three new gaming notebooks, the Triton 3, Predator Helios 300 and Nitro 5. The Triton 300 has a 15.6″ 360Hz FullHD or 165Hz QHD display and Nvidia RTX 3080 GPU and an Intel Core H CPU. The Helios 300 has the same display options in 15.6″ or 17.3″ diagonals and Nvidia RTX 30 series GPUs. The Nitro 5 has the same size options with 144Hz FullHD IPS displays with 300 cd/m² of output.
In another report, Asustek said that its PC revenues were up 70% in Q1, while components (mobos and graphic cards) expects continued strong performance. It is also passing on price increases because of upward pressure on component prices.
Asus said that conventional PCs were up over 50%, gaming PCs over 75% and enterprise PCs, including Chromebooks, were up more than 170%. The firm is said to be expecting shipments of its ROG Phone 5 gaming smartphone to reach 400K this year.
What We Think
Over the years, it has often been the case that when panel makers are doing well, set makers suffer and vice versa. However, the genuine demand growth in IT has meant that, unusually, both parts of the supply chain are doing well at the same time. Happy Days! (BR)
